MPIKA Day Secondary School’s perfect start to the 2014 Copa Coca-Cola Schools boy’s football tournament was yesterday halted by Anoya Zulu who inflicted the Muchinga Province envoys with a 4-1 thumping on Day Two of the competition.
It was Highrige Secondary School from Central Province who were the day’s highest scorers, scoring 11 goals in their two matches played at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC).
In Group A, Mpika, who started their campaign with 2-1 and 5-2 wins over Maheba and Nchelenge, found the tough going against the Eastern Province representatives to register their first defeat.
Mpika were by press time playing Mwata to claim a place in the semi-finals while Anoya were later held to a 1-all draw by Nchelenge. Today’s fixtures will see Annoya playing Maheba, who later play Nchelenge as Mwata dates Nchelenge in a later match.
In Group B, Highrige proved their ability to score goals humiliating Senanga 8-0 in a lopsided match before thrashing Mungwi 3-0. In the 8-0 bashing, Joseph Phiri and Rodwell Simabwala each scored a brace with Brighton Sibale netting in one as Prince Shiponta accounted for a hat-trick.
The other match saw Sekela winning their first match beating Mungwi 4-0 after Day One of defeat and a draw. Lusaka Province representatives, Chongwe beat Mungwi 3-0 but were later beaten 1-0 by the Western Province envoys Senanaga.
Highridge plays Sekela today before taking on Chongwe while Mungwi face Senanga.
