THERE have been incessant calls for the Bank of Zambia (BoZ) to help reduce the lending interest rates being charged by the commercial banks and other financial lending institutions in the country.
The BoZ should take these recurring calls seriously because of the important role the interest rates play in determining the cost of borrowing.
Potential businesses are closing down because the proprietors cannot manage to borrow from the banks at current rates.
Learn from Zambeef
ZAMBEEF Products seems to stand out as Zambia’s sole success story in terms of growth of a locally-owned company which started from the scratch.
Briefcase, however, wonders why Zambeef seems to be the only one in that superlative category without any other aspiring firms learning from it.
Local investors should take time to learn from this firm before trying to emulate it because the country needs more “Zambeef stories” to ensure sustainable development.
