By FELIX  MALUNGA –
GOVERNMENT says it will meet the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) on why they did not employ Honour Janza as a full-time Chipolopolo coach.
Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili said what FAZ had so far informed him that Janza was just a stand-in trainer.
Kambwili said during the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation’s Sunday Interview programme that he would therefore meet FAZ to find out why Janza was not a substantive coach for the Chipolopolo.
He said if Janza would be given a full-time job, he (Kambwili) would propose that the FAZ technical director was given what Frenchman, Herve Renard used to be paid as salary.
The minister, however, said coaches negotiate their salaries with FAZ but that it was imperative for the association to offer the Zambian trainers good salaries like those given to expatriates.
“What I have been told by FAZ is that Janza is a stand-in coach. It’s not that he has been employed as a full-time coach. I will have a meeting with FAZ and find out why they are not employing him on full-time basis.
“If he is employed on full-time, I will be the first one to say let’s give him what or almost what Herve Renard was getting. but you know that coaches negotiate their salaries according to certain things that FAZ look at. I can only urge FAZ to make sure that they give Zambian coaches good salaries as they give expatriates,” he said.
Kambwili said Janza, a qualified CAF instructor, had trained most of the top local coaches who were drilling various clubs.
He reiterated that Government would continue paying salaries for the Chipolopolo coaches.
Kambwili also said his ministry does not interfere with the engagement of national coaches but that Government would always support FAZ’s choice for a trainer.
The minister added that it was a good thing for FAZ to start giving locals a chance to drill the senior national team.
Last week, FAZ appointed Janza as interim coach for the Chipolopolo following the departure of Patrice Beaumelle who joined his compatriot Renard as his assistant in Ivory Coast.
