MPIKA DAY Secondary School kicked off their 2014 Copa Coca Cola Schools boys football tournament on a sound note yesterday, winning their opening two matches and scoring seven goals at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka.
Mpika started their campaign of Group A with a 2-1 win over Maheba Secondary School before trouncing Nchelenge Secondary School from Luapula 5-2 to keep alive hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals.
The Muchinga Province representatives scored their five goals through Brian Mwewa, John Kumwenda, Caleb Kapambwe, George Zimba and Emmanuel Kafuwa to condemn Nchelenge to a bad start.
In Group B, Sekela Secondary, who are the Copperbelt representatives, kicked off on a disappointing note after failing to win any of the two games played.
Sekela lost their first game 3-2 to Lusaka Province envoys Chongwe but managed to pick up a point in a 1-all draw against Senanga from Western Province.
Other games saw Mwata Secondary of Southern Province beat Eastern Province side Anoya Zulu 4-2 with Highridge beating Mungwi Secondary from Northern Province 3-0.
Today’s matches will see Mwata Day take on Maheba with Anoya up against tournament’s favourites Mpika before playing Nchelenge.
