THE Darts Association of Zambia (DAZ) is seeking support from the corporate world to raise K265, 000 needed to send a 30-member team for the 2014 Zone Six Championships in Harare, Zimbabwe from August 20 to 30.
During last year’s edition held in Malawi, Zambia minted bronze after finishing behind winners South Africa and runners up Namibia.
DAZ secretary general Samuel Zulu said in an interview in Ndola yesterday that the association had raised about K40, 000, part of which was paid towards affiliation fees to the regional body and Sports Council of Zambia (SCZ).
Zulu said as result, DAZ was left with only K20, 000 in its coffers and that time was running out for Zambia to meet the budget deficit and implored the business community to aid the association.
“We are in need of sponsors for our Zone Six trip in Zimbabwe, we submitted our budget to the Sports Council of Zambia as per laid down procedures and we have not gotten a response yet.
Our hope is that we can manage to send a team and depending on the available resources, we will not hesitate to trim the team,” he said.
Meanwhile, the association has revived the Chipata District Darts League, bringing the total to nine across the country.
