MIDFIELDER Clifford Mulenga has expressed happiness after signing a one-year-deal with South African Absa Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Ajax Cape Town.
The former Mpumalanga Black Aces player trained with the club for a few days under the watchful eye of coach Roger De Sa and made a good impression on the coach.
“It feels good signing for Ajax Cape Town, it wasn’t my best year last season playing for Black Aces and Ajax Cape Town have given me the opportunity to prove myself again,” Mulenga said in a statement released by the club yesterday.
Mulenga will also be hoping his new signing can land him a recall back to the Chipolopolo after his unceremoniously exit at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Equatorial Guinea due to disciplinary reasons.
“Ajax Cape Town is a young team and I look forward to fitting in well here. I want to help them win games, score goals and win a trophy or two again.” Mulenga said.
Mulenga’s debut in the PSL league was in 2009 when de Sa gave him a chance to play for Bidvest Wits.
“’I’m definitely keen on playing for coach Roger de Sa, his a good coach, his proved it over the years. He brings out the best in me and I look forward to working under him,” he said.
The 27-year-old is eager to make a difference at Ikamva and hopes to be in the squad for upcoming game against Amazulu tomorrow at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
Mulenga has also played for Bloemfontein Celtic, SuperSport United and University of Pretoria.
Club chairperson Ari Efsthaiou believes the club has found an experienced in Mulenga, who won the 2007GLO-CAF Young Player-of-the-Year award, to help strengthen the team.
“We’ve been looking to sign an experienced player and we believe we found the right player in Clifford Mulenga. We are still looking to strengthen our team, hoping to add one or two more experienced players to our youthful squad,” Efsthaiou said.
