MTN Zambia has commended Government for revising the school curriculum to include computer literacy.
Company chief executive officer Abdul Ismail said the company was happy to note that the Government had revised the school curriculum to include computer literacy.
Mr Ismail said this was a commendable development in the education sector as Information Communication Technology (ICTs) greatly benefited everyone and acted as a significant contributory factor in raising of standards of achievement in schools.
He said when he handed over 28 computers to three primary schools in Lusaka’s Matero Township yesterday that the move emphasised the need to nvest more in ICTs as the demand for ICTs was high in schools.
“We are happy to note that the Zambian Government has revised the school curriculum to include computer literacy, this is a commendable development in the education sector as it has greatly benefited everyone and acted as a significant contributory factor in raising of standards of achievement in schools,” Mr Ismail said.
Mr Ismail said a study conducted by MTN showed that ICTs had a positive impact across a wide range of aspects of school life and that
it benefited the school, the teachers, the students and the parents.
He said the company was committed to bridging the gap by being open to work with partners who shared the vision to uplift the community.
The three primary schools, George Central, Edwin Mulongoti and Hillside which received the computers recently took part in a computer quiz as part of MTN’s annual staff volunteer programme called 21 days of Y’ello Care.
Hillside went away with 12 computers, nine computers went to George Central and seven went to Edwin Mulongoti.
