GOVERNMENT, through the Ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs, has disbursed about K100, 000 to Choma Museum and Craft Centre to boost its operations.
Choma Museum executive director, Bevin Sangulube said the funds would empower the institution in its operations to acquire knowledge on the Tonga culture in all chiefdoms in the province.
Ms Sangulube confirmed the development in an interview during a recent adoption meeting of the public programmes by the institution for the period 2014 to 2016.
“This is in line with our country’s forthcoming 50 years Golden Jubilee celebrations in October for people to appreciate their heritage,” she said.
She said the institution had lined up a number of programmes such as school competitions, promotion of crafts and local traditional foods for people to appreciate their culture.
She said some elderly persons would be engaged for the revival of storytelling to enable children learn and understand the Tonga history.
Choma District Board Secretary (DEBS) Mutinta Mubanga, in her contribution during the meeting, said majority of pupils needed to learn more on how to read and write in their local language to promote the culture of storytelling.
Ms Mubanga said storytelling would significantly help learners to understand and read, thereby communicating effectively in their local language.
