WORLD Boxing Council (WBC) silver women bantamweight holder, Catherine Phiri has said she will prove that she is a champion when Hee-Yung Yuh of South Korea challenges her for the title on November 22 at Government Complex in Lusaka.
Meanwhile, Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions (OQBP) unveiled a K53, 000 budget for an exhibition tournament this monthend in Kasama.
Catherine said she was ready to defend her WBC title and would not be intimidated by her opponent’s record of having many fights under her belt.
“I am training hard for this fight because I want to prove to everyone that I am a champion and don’t want to let disappoint my fans,” She said.
The WBC champion said she was always in the gymnasium after school to balance up her boxing career and education.
“I train after school because I know the importance of education, one day I might stop boxing but my life has to continue that’s why am fighting to achieve success in both school and boxing,” she said.
On Monday, Superior Milling donated K50,000 towards Catherine’s defence title.
Company general manager Peter Cottan said in Lusaka that K40,000 of the sponsorship was in cash while K10,000 was worth of Superior Milling products.
Cottan said Superior was proud to be associated to Catherine’s defence title because of the confidence the firm had in her abilities.
Meanwhile, OQBP operations manager, Christopher Malunga said the exhibition tournament in Kasama where Catherine would feature would be a build up for the WBC title defence.
Malunga called on the corporate world in Kasama to support the exhibition fight which was part of their talent identification. He said their next target after Kasama would be Eastern Province to spread across the country.
