A FOURTY-SIX-YEAR-OLD Chinese contractor has been arrested for assaulting one of his workers in Mwense.
Dong Mians, a supervisor at Zheng Tai Company of Mwense, was arrested on Saturday for assaulting Baldwin Mutuna, 25, one of the workers at the company.
Luapula Province Police Commissioner Malcolm Mulenga said yesterday that the incident happened on Saturday.
Mr Mulenga said Dong allegedly assaulted Mr Mutuna after he asked the Deputy Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya a question about overtime when the minister visited the construction site on Friday.
“The minister visited the construction site on Thursday and he met the workers and the Chinese contractor after which he took questions.
“Baldwin asked a question about overtime. The next day when the workers were getting paid, Dong told Baldwin to get his money from the minister and when Baldwin said he doesn’t work for the minister but for the Chinese company, that is when Dong got upset,” Mr Mulenga said.
He said Dong took a glass and allegedly threw it in the direction of Mr Mutuna.
The glass hit into a tree and the broken pieces hit Mr Mutuna on his left arm, where he sustained cuts.
Mr Mulenga said Dong was arrested for assault on Saturday and he was released on police bond later.
