A TEAM of 11 American medical experts is in Ndola to offer free medical services to Zambians with different aliments.
The team is led by Nitin Shah, Professor of Anaesthesiology and clinical care at Los Angeles’s Loma Linda University (LLU), operating from Ndola Central Hospital (NCH) and their visit has been coordinated by the Ndola Hindu Samaj.
The team is expected to attend to some 300 patients with eye, joints, skin and bone diseases.
“We are a team of medical personnel on a mission to help the people of Zambia. We are glad to be here to attend to the patients,” said Dr Shah, who is also a chief surgeon at Long Beach LA Hospital in California.
He said in an interview that his team comprised eye, joint, skin and bone specialists and also carried out 50 eye surgeries before coming to Ndola.
Dr Shah, worked at Ndola Central Hospital several years ago.
He thanked Anekant Community Centre for the financial support to his team of doctors and volunteers who have travelled to Zambia on a charity medical mission.
He also revealed that he had sourced US$20,000 worth of medical equipment to be donated to Arthur Davison Children’s Hospital, NCH and one hospice in Lusaka.
“The medical equipment has already been shipped and will be distributed through Churches Association of Zambia (CHAZ),” said.
The equipment includes; hemodialysis machine, Oxygen Concentrator, medical supplies and several other items.
The team includes; Kinna Gandhi (Volunteeer) Dr Russell Spencer (Anesthesiologist), Dr. Shail Vyas (Orthopeadic) Dr Trisha Patel (Anesthesiologist), Dr. Sameer Soliman (Anesthesiologist) and Dr. Vipul Prajapati (Opthalmologist).
Others are; Dr Tulsi Prajapati (Dermatologist), ChaNelle M Baines (volunteer) Nitin Shukla (volunteer), Dipti Shukla (volunteer), max (volunteer) and Arun Arya (volunteer).
Ndola Hindu Samaj chairperson Chiraag Vnod Valand said his organisation was happy to host a team of experts, saying it was his association’s goal to help people access quality health care.
“We do a lot of charity works in the community. We understand that not many people have access to quality health care,” he said.
Mr Valand said the Ndola Hindu Samaj would continue to make a difference in the lives of many people in the area of health, education and other aspects.
