A NON-Governmental Organisation Zambia Children New Life Centre (ZCNLC) has expressed happiness with Government’s inclusion of women in decision-making positions in the country.

ZCNLC executive director Kavwumbu Hakachima said the appointment of women into top decision-making positions would help Zambia achieve the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) quota of 30 per cent women participation in governance.

Ms Hakachima urged the girls to avail themselves for appointment to decision-making positions, while they are young, adding that women are the ones who are most affected by many social issues such as poverty.

Ms Hakachima, who also donated a set of basketball jerseys for the boys, netball jerseys for the girls at Chikankata High School and a floating trophy for district games, urged the pupils to refrain from immoral acts.

She has since called on Government to introduce a policy that would also penalise any boy who impregnates a school girl by not allowing them to continue with school so that they nurse the pregnancy together.

Ms Hakachima said this was the only way school boys would stay away from premarital sex.

She has since appealed to ministry of Education to allow the schools in Chikankata district to take part in sporting activities every term to fight for the district trophy to prepare them for inter district and provincial games.

Meanwhile, all Government departments in the newly-created Chikankata district are now operational with most positions filled with deserving officers.

Chikankata District Commissioner (DC) Silvester Simayaba said this in a speech read on his behalf by District Administration Officer Sekani Tembo at the launch of the districts’ inter area ball games.
