SHE might not come from a royal lineage but believes the connotation of her name ‘Sarah’ and her world-class singing talent, places her among those enjoying the royal esteem…‘Princess Mwamba’ she has come to be called.
She might not be known to millions of Zambians who are discovering her now through this write-up but truth be told, she stands among very few Zambians in the bracket of less than 10 with a rare combination of excellent singing and stage performance talent.
One may wonder why one of her latest seen video releases ‘Haters’ has not hit the international musical channels as the quality is simply adorable and of international standards.
Even MultiChoice acting public relations manager Mumbi Mutale agrees that Princess Mwamba’s music video is good and deserves a space on Channel O.
“This is what we want, to see , more Zambians bringing in quality content to DStv, we will do everything possible to send the video to Channel O and if they see it worthy which I believe they will, it will be a big plus to Zambia and the artiste,” Mumbi says.
But who is Princess Mwamba?
She is a 23-year-old Zambian born lady who has spent most of her time in the USA where she discovered her music talent three years ago.
She believes in her home country and says though she can be in the USA, her roots and interests are in Zambia.
Forced to throw a critic on Zambian music, Princess says Zambians naturally have a good talent but they need to compose songs that are salable across the world.
“The Zambian musicians just have to do music that can reach out there otherwise they are good,” she says.
Princess’s musical talent discovery has a touching story to it that mostly make her drop a tear when she tells it.
She says one musical producer in the USA so much believed in her that he wanted her to record with him but she always turned him down.
“One faithful day he insisted he would wait for me to record no matter how late but unfortunately he was attacked late that evening and shot dead as he was waiting for me,” she narrated trying hard to hold back tears.
Princess regrets that had she gone to the studio earlier that day, that man would have not died and it pains her that a life that so much believed in her had to be lost because of wanting to usher her into the world of stardom.
Maybe that is why she is so good with her mic and stage work not to talk of her amazing videos all in honor of the man who believed in her.
Some of the tracks to her own signature include: Haters, Jungle, Swag Walk Should Have Never, I’am a Princess, Badder than a Mug, Groove and Don’t Leave Me.
Princess is in the country for some personal and charity work but most of all explore Zambia musically because that is what she does best!
