THE 53-year-old science teacher of Roma Girls Secondary School, who beat up his head teacher, yesterday appeared in the Lusaka Magistrate Court.
Principal Magistrate Aridah Chuulu has since granted Daswell Sichilongo a K1000 cash bail, after he pleaded not guilty to assault.
Sichilongo, who is facing one count of assault told the court, after the offence was read out to him, that he was not guilty.
Sichilongo is alleged to have on July 19, 2014 assaulted Emma Chakupalesa.
He was shown on Muvi Television on Saturday beating up Sister Chakupalesa, a Catholic nun, for locking up his house, over unpaid rentals.
The Catholic Church owns houses at the school and teachers pay subsidised rentals of K300 per month, but some teachers including Sichilongo had been defaulting.
Sichilongo would appear for mention on August 8, while trial would start on August 25.
Meanwhile, a 27-year-old woman yesterday openly wept in court as she narrated how her ex-husband allegedly poisoned to death two of her children before attempting to take his own life after the court dissolved their marriage.
Clara Mbuki of Chibombo narrated before Lusaka -based High Court Judge Chalwe Mchenga sitting in Kabwe, that a day after the marriage was dissolved by the Mungule Local Court, her ex-husband called her on her mobile phone saying it was the last time he was talking with her because he was taking his and their two children’s lives.
This is in a case in which Julius Mucheki is facing two counts of murdering his children Julius Mucheki (junior) aged seven and Elika aged five, a charge he denied.
But Ms Mbuki who could not hold back her tears, told the court that the accused told her that he was not happy with the ruling of the court, which asked him to be paying K200 for a period of K14 months for the support of the two children.
She explained that she was shocked to learn that her two children had died after drinking suspected poison which was mixed with a drink.
She explained that she was married to Mucheki for more than eight years but decided to seek a divorce over differences.
Another witness Christopher Sakala told Mr Justice Mchenga that he received a call from the accused telling him that he had given poison to his two kids and that he had also drunk the same.
Trial continues.
