EIGHT robbers armed with knives and planks attacked a clinic in Luanshya’s Mikomfwa Township and got away with a television, mobile phones, and cash.
The incident happened around 01:00 hours on Saturday at Mikomfwa Health Centre where the robbers pounced on a guard and two nurses who were on duty.
Copperbelt Police chief Joyce Kasosa said yesterday that the nurses, Lukozyo Nalungwe, 30, and Annie Lubinda, 45, as well as security guard Francis Mulenga, 45, also had their mobile phones and cash taken by the robbers.
Ms Kasosa said Ms Nalungwe was robbed of a phone valued at K700 and K2,100 cash and in the process sustained a backache and general body pains after being roughed up.
Ms Lubinda was robbed of a Nokia phone valued at K400 and K3,500 cash and also sustained body pains.
Mr Mulenga was beaten up and he sustained a cut on the lip, while his K40 mobile phone was also grabbed from him.
“They were attacked by eight unknown men who were armed with knives, cutters and planks who also stole one 29-inch plasma TV, value of which is not yet known,” Ms Kasosa said.
She said the three victims were treated at Thompson Hospital in Luanshya.
Meanwhile, four vehicles were yesterday gutted when fire swept through a garage in the second class trading area of Kitwe.
The inferno swept through the garage only known as ‘Old Kawayo’ at plot number 5421 along Free Town Road after used oil stored there caught fire, while being pre-heated around 11:00 hours.
A check by the Times around 15:00 hours found only shells of the gutted vehicles that included a Hiace minibus, Toyota Surf, Toyota Sprinter and Toyota Corolla.
An eye witness who asked not to be named said three of the gutted vehicles belonged to clients and were parked there for repair, while the forth one was for the mechanic running the garage.
He said the fire ignited around 11:00 hours when some people were pre-heating used oil when in the process there was a spill.
“The fire was only quenched by a combined team of Kitwe City Council and Mopani Copper Mines fire brigade,” the witness said.
