PRESIDENT Michael Sata’s son Kazimu, who was involved in a road traffic accident on the Kitwe-Ndola dual carriage way on Tuesday with several others, is receiving treatment at Milpark Hospital in South Africa for the injuries he sustained.
Health Minister Joseph Kasonde confirmed the development in an interview with the Times in Lusaka yesterday.
Dr Kasonde, who was flanked by Ministry of Health Mobile and Emergency Health Services director Gardner Syakantu, however, refused to give more details on the matter.
“You know that he (Kazimu) is South Africa? He is at Milpark Hospital,” he said.
Asked how Kazimu’s condition was, Dr Kasonde said: “No, now you are entering into what he (Dr Syakantu) and I have sworn to, confidentiality, so if you are asking the doctors, you are asking the wrong people.”
Meanwhile, UPND vice president Canisius Banda said the party had learnt of the accident involving Kazimu with shock.
“We learnt with shock and trepidation of the road traffic accident in which President Sata’s son, Kazimu, and others were injured,” he said.
Dr Banda said the incident and many others further highlights the nation’s need to seriously observe and enhance road safety measures in the  country in line with the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines and recommendations.
