Pregnant woman stabbed to death

POLICE in Northern Province have apprehended a 19-year-old youth in Mpulungu, accused of stabbing a 20-year-old pregnant woman to death, after she turned down his love proposal.
The woman Monica Chifunda, who was seven months pregnant, was stabbed several times with a knife in the stomach and chest in Kasakalabwe Village in Chief Tafuna’s area.
Her attacker, Dan Simwila, from the same village, had taken advantage of the absence of the woman’s husband, to attempt to get intimate with her a week ago.
Simwila did not take the woman’s reject well and he stabbed and killed her before attempting to flee.
But he was swiftly apprehend by other villagers, who beat him to near death and was only handed over to police when he become unconscious.
Northern Province police commissioner Charity Katanga said in an interview yesterday that the youth was now in police custody in Mpulungu, after regaining consciousness.
“The woman was in fact married and her husband was away watching a game of soccer on television when the accused took advantage of the situation to propose love to her but she refused.
“The man then got angry and stabbed her in the stomach and chest several times with a knife,” Ms Katanga said.
Meanwhile, a 26-year-old Chibombo farmer has allegedly been beaten to death by two of his friends following a misunderstanding at a beer party.
The incident, happened in Musompelo village around 22:00 hours on Thursday, when Offer Kalembela differed with his friends during the party and a fight ensued.
Central Province Commissioner of police Standwell Lungu, who confirmed the development yesterday,  explained that police  have  since apprehended one of the suspects identified as Kamiji Kambita, while the other friend was on the run.
Mr Lungu explained that Mr Kalembela sustained cuts on his head and mouth due to the kicks, fists  and a stick used in the attack.
“I can confirm that  we  are  investigating a case  in which  a  26-year-old  farmer was allegedly  beaten up by two of friends after differing  during a party and we are looking  for  one  suspect that managed to run away,” he said.
