THE Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) has donated two vehicle engines to Livingstone Institute of Business and Engineering Studies (LIBES) valued at K16, 000 to enhance training in technological advancement.
Speaking during the handover of the engines to LIBES in Livingstone on Thursday afternoon, EIZ southern region chairperson William Mulusa said the engines were meant to equip students as they did their theoretical and practical studies on the engines.
Mr Mulusa said education was one of the most important sectors for socio-economic development for Zambia.
He said EIZ would continue to partner with institutions of learning like LIBES to promote high education standards.
Mr Mulusa hoped the donation would go a long away in promoting skills excellence and help in providing Zambia’s growing automotive industry with the much needed technical competence.
‘’It is our expectation that this donation further helps sharpen the skills of Zambian engineering professionals so that they have practical skills necessary for effective engineering practice,’’ Mr Mulusa said.
“We look forward to explore more ways of cooperation and support to technical training institutions in Zambia,’’ Mr Mulusa said.
Receiving the engines, LIBES principal Thomas Kalatiya expressed happiness saying the engines were of the latest technology.
Mr Kalatiya said the training equipment, which was manufactured in 2000, would help equip the students with new approaches to technology.
‘’These engines were manufactured after 2000 and they are latest and built on modern technology with a Variable Valve Timing Intelligence (VVTI),”Mr Kalatiya said.
He said the need for skilled automotive manpower could not be over emphasised as technology was moving with time.
