STRUGGLING MTN-FAZ Premier League side, Roan United has hired Dean Mwiinde as head coach on a six month contract to help turn around misfortunes that have rocked the relegation threatened club.
Mwiinde, a former National Assembly coach, has been tasked to save ‘Stylish’ from getting relegated to the lower ranks next season.
From the 15 games played, Roan has lost nine matches winning and drawing three matches to be second from bottom on 13 points.
Club secretary Chisoni Miti confirmed the appointment of Mwiinde in an interview yesterday.
Initially, Konkola Mine Police coach Bruce Mwape was set to make a return to Roan after he was offered the job but failed to do so prompting the club executive committee to settle for Mwiinde.
“The club has offered Dean Mwiinde a six month contract that will see him at the club for the rest of the season. As you know we appointed Bruce Mwape to take charge of the side but he has not shown and we haven’t received any communication from him.
We cannot keep on waiting for a person who is not showing, so we have appointed Mwiinde after he underwent the interviews,” he said.
Miti said Mwiinde initial contract will be subject to review at the end of the season after which the club will decide whether to extend or not.
“We need him to salvage the team from relegation and we are looking forward to finishing at least finish in the top eight,” he said.
Simonda Kaunda, who has been caretaker coach following the departure of Mwape last year, will revert to his role of assistant coach.
