THE Confederation of African Rugby (CAR) has picked Zambia to replace Morocco at the Four-Nations Africa Cup Under-19 Group tournament slated for August 25 to 30 in Uganda.
Zambia Rugby Union (ZRU) media and communications manager, Brenda Katongola said CAR settled for Zambia following the North African country’s failure to make it to East Africa for the annual rugby championship.
Katongola said in a statement yesterday in Lusaka that preparations to select the Zambia Under-19 squad has started for the tournament that will also feature Madagascar and Senegal.
According to the draws which have been communicated to the ZRU by CAR, all teams will be expected to arrive in Kampala on Monday, August 25 and a technical meeting will be held on the same date.
On Tuesday, August 26, 2014, all the four nations will go straight into the tournament in which Zambia has been pitted against Madagascar in the first match at 14:30 hours, while the other match between Uganda and Senegal would be played at 16:30 hours.
The losers of the first semi-final match will play against the losers of the second semi-final match at 14:30 hours on Saturday, August 30. The winners of the first semi-final encounter will slug it out with the winners of the second semi-final encounter.
Katongola said the organisers of the tournament have emphasised that CAR rules will be applied and that all team managers must ensure that players representing their Unions are eligible to do so in accordance with International Rugby Board (IRB) Laws and Regulations.
She said a participating player should have been born between January 1, 1995 and December 31, 1996 and that no players born outside the stipulated period shall be permitted to play in the tournament.
