Government will start the installation of nine mobile communication towers in Mungwi District in Northern Province before the end of March this year to improve business communication in the district.
This is part of the national policy to extend communication to chiefdoms in all parts of the country to encourage the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and mobile telecommunication.
In response to the concerns by residents in the area about poor networks in remote parts of the district, Malole Member of Parliament Christopher Yaluma said Government would start the installation of mobile towers in the district to improve communication.
“Communication is a catalyst for economic development, the installation of mobile towers will commence by the end of March this year,” Mr Yaluma said.
He said recently, the Government through Zesco Limited and Zamtel installed the fibre network which he said would help much in improving business communication.
Mr Yaluma who is also Mines, Energy and Water Development Minister, said the installation of mobile towers would encourage the use of ICT in schools and other businesses.
He said with the impending introduction of e-voucher system, the improvement of mobile communication would assist farmers a lot.
Mr Yaluma added that to efficiently implement the national policy on ICT and the industrialisation policies, Government had embarked on electrification of rural parts of the country.
“We want to bring electricity closer to the people, Zesco has started connecting power to rural parts of the country under rural electrification projects because it is difficult to effectively implement ICT as well as industrialise rural areas without providing electricity and communication,” he said.
