CENTRAL Province Minister, Obvious Mwaliteta has assured the people of newly created Luano District of Government’s commitment to develop the area through the provision of all the services required to run a district.
Mr Mwaliteta said from the time Luano was declared a district, a number of developmental projects had been initiated and were progressing well.
He said the feeder roads had been worked on and that Zesco had started putting up poles to electrify the area.
“I am happy to inform the residents of Luano District that power would be connected soon and Zesco has started putting up poles, Government is in a hurry to develop the country and will continue to fulfill its promises of bettering people’s lives,” he said.
Speaking in Luano on Thursday after Munda Ward Patriotic Front (PF) candidate Adamson Kapapa filed in his nomination papers at Chilata Primary School, Mr Mwaliteta said Government would continue to take development to the rural parts of the country.
Mr Mwaliteta cautioned the opposition political parties to offer checks and balances to the Government of the day if the country was to develop instead of dwelling on petty issues and insulting the head of State.
Mr Mwaliteta said Government had shown commitment to developing the country through the infrastructure development projects that it has embarked on.
Meanwhile, The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has increased its satellite depots in Luano from three to 10 to allow farmers sell their produce effectively.
Mr Mwaliteta said Government wanted to ensure that farmers were able to sell their produce without traveling long distances.
Mr Mwaliteta said this development would encourage more farmers in the district to sell their produce to the FRA as they would be within their proximity.
“I am happy to inform the people of Luano District that Government has increased the number of FRA depots to encourage the farmers to sell their produce and contribute to the national food basket”, Mr Mwaliteta said.
Mr Mwaliteta added that in the past, farmers in the district had been complaining that the FRA depots were not enough and that the travelled long distances to sell their maize.
He said it was for this reason that Government decided to increase the selling points for the farmers in Senior Chief Mboroma, Chief Chembe and Chief Mbosha’s areas.
Mr Mwaliteta has since advised the farmers in the district not to sell their maize to brief case traders who are swindling them but wait for the FRA to commence buying from them.
