FINANCE Minister Alexander Chikwanda has not resigned from his ministerial position, Chief Government spokesperson Mwansa Kapeya has said.

He dispelled rumours that Mr Chikwanda had quit his position following alleged differences with President Michael Sata.

Mr Kapeya said the information circulating on some online publications should be treated as false, baseless and malicious.

“It is wishful thinking for enemies of the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) Government to suggest that Honourable Alexander Chikwanda, MP, Minister of Finance has resigned from his ministerial position following alleged differences with His Excellency President Michael Chilufya Sata,” Mr Kapeya said.

He said in a statement in Lusaka yesterday that Mr Chikwanda was still the Minister of Finance and would continue to offer his valuable services to the nation for as long as President Sata wished him to do so.

Mr Kapeya said as a matter of fact, Mr Chikwanda attended a Cabinet meeting at State House yesterday morning.

“I also wish to state that contrary to the ill-motives of the perpetrators of such falsehoods, no Bemba minister has resigned from Government,” he said.

He said the PF Government had a mandate to deliver the much needed development to the people of Zambia and would not allow anyone to detract it from achieving the important task by spreading falsehoods about Government officials.

“Cabinet remains resolute and determined to offer this country the necessary leadership that will drive the country’s national development agenda to higher levels,” Mr Kapeya said.
