PATRICK Mpundu put up an impressive performance to win nine of the 10 games to be crowned champion of the Scrabble Association of Zambia (SAZ) rating tournament held at the Bank of Zambia (BoZ) Sports Club in Lusaka.
In second place was Mubanga Kambikambi who managed to win seven games with Julius Mulele in third place after picking up six wins and a draw to finish on 6.5 points.
Evans Mwewa and won six games with a spread of 366, while SAZ president Sydney Kalema also won six games but had a less spread of 343 followed by Justine Chansa in sixth place.
Mulenga Chitundu, Milton Mwila, Levy Moonga and Jessica Mwansa completed the top 10 finishers.
Meanwhile, Mpundu said the association was using the rating tournament to prepare for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games that gets underway on July 23 and ends on August 4.
“The team has not yet been picked because we are waiting for National Olympic Committee to confirm to us as to how many to athletes will send. We are not taking the Commonwealth Games lightly as our aim is to perform well and win medals,” he said.
