LIMULUBy MWANGALA LISELI-
GOVERNMENT has started the construction preliminaries for the Limulunga and Nalolo district hospitals in Western Province, Health Deputy Minister Chitalu Chilufya has disclosed.
Dr Chilufya said the construction of the Nalolo and Limulunga district hospitals was to fulfill Government’s pledge to build hospitals in the newly formed districts.
Dr Chilufya said the two health facilities were part of the 29 new hospitals that were being built in different phases countrywide.
He said in Mongu yesterday when he toured Mongu District Hospital that there were eight new district hospitals to be constructed this year including Mansa, Mafinga, Vubwi, Chilubi and Chililabombwe.
The Health deputy minister said three General hospitals are to be constructed including Bangweulu, Muchinga and Mazabuka general hospitals as part of Government’s policy of bringing health services closer to the people.
Meanwhile, phase one of Mongu District Hospital has been completed at the cost of K4 million.
He said phase two will be completed in October this year and would be at a cost of K8 million.
Dr Chilufya also said six health posts would be completed within a month in Kalabo District this year in a bid to improve access to healthcare delivery in the remote district.
Dr Chilufya said when he toured Kalabo District Hospital and Ndoka Health Post that the total number of health posts in the district would be 10 as there were already four.
“Government released money to complete the six health posts that are already under construction here in Kalabo District. There are inadequate health services in this district and that’s why Government wants to increase health posts in this area which will significantly improve health services,” Dr Chilufya said.
Dr Chilufya also encouraged the health workers at Kalabo District Hospital to review and target zero maternal deaths in the district.
He also urged them to work hand in hand with the community to get rid of malaria.
Kalabo District Commissioner Masela Chinyama said she was pleased with the completion of the health posts in her district as this would improve healthcare  in the area.
Ms Masela said health services in the area had always been a challenge as people had to walk long kilometres to access medical care.
A Pharmacy technologist Noel Ukwimi said Kalabo District Hospital was stocked with all essential drugs ranging from antibiotics to Anti-retroviral drugs (ARVs).
