By KENNEDY MUPESENI –

MALOLE Member of Parliament Christopher Yaluma has donated 14 mattresses to Mumba Rural Health Centre situated 100 Kilometers from Mungwi Boma to ease the challenges patients face in the area.

The heath Centre had no mattresses which used to force patients to sleep on the floor which compromised the quality of medical care services.

Mr Yaluma who was in the constituency to check on the developmental projects said Government attaches great importance to providing quality medical care services to the Zambian people as contained in the Patriotic Front(PF) manifesto.

“As Government we are fighting hard to bring quality health care closer to the people, that is the reason why we intend to build 650 health posts across the country of which nine would be built in my constituency,” Mr Yaluma said.

Mr Yaluma was speaking recently at a meeting held at Mumba Basic School in response to the Village Headman Mumba who complained of the bad state of the health centre.

The minister explained that the Government would continue improving health infrastructure in the country.

Mr Yaluma who is Mines Energy and Water Development minister said the road infrastructure development that the Government has embarked upon would make life easy for the residents as they would now be able to take patients to the nearest health centre.

He also said the rural electrification expansion the Government has embarked on would help improve health services in the rural parts of the country which be lit up and most of the medical facilities would be brought to the area.

Earlier residents complained of lack of power at the health centre which they said was affecting health care services delivery as the solar system stopped functioning a long time ago.

But Mr Yaluma promised that he had discussed with the Northern Provincial medical officer to bring solar panels within a week as a temporal measure and that he would pursue the ministry of health so that more health personnel were deployed to the area.

“I will engage the Ministry of Health for them to deploy more health personnel, I am confident that more health officers will be deplored because the infrastructure development would attract them to come to the area,” he said.

He added that Mungwi District was going to have the first district hospital and the construction would start in April immediately after the end of the rain season.
