THE University of Lusaka (UNILUS) has conferred Auditor General Anna Chifungula and Lawrence Sikutwa, the chairperson of Lawrence Sikutwa and Associates (LSA) Group, with Honourary Doctorate Degrees for their noble contributions to the country.
Ms Chifungula was conferred with an honorary Doctorate of Philosophy in Accounting and Auditing, while Mr Sikutwa was honoured with an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy in Entrepreneurship and Management at a special UNILUS graduation ceremony in Lusaka yesterday.
Speaking at the ceremony, UNILUS Chancellor Caleb Fundanga said the event signaled the importance the University attached to honouring Zambia’s own heroes who had excelled in their professional careers and had made significant contribution to society as a whole.
Dr Fundanga said it was in view of the foregoing that UNILUS had taken up the task of identifying Zambian heroes and recognise them instead of other countries assuming this role.
Dr Fundanga, who is former Bank of Zambia (BoZ) Governor, said recognising and honouring nationals for their significant contributions to society motivated them to do more and inspired others to excel.
African Development Bank (AfDB) resident representative, Freddie Kwesiga said Dr Chifungula and Dr Sikutwa deserved to be honoured and emulated. University of Zambia Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stephen Simukanga highlighted some of the achievements of Dr Chifungula and Dr Sikutwa and said the two were a source of inspiration and admiration and undoubtedly served as role models to both the young and old people.
In appreciating the honour, Dr Chifungula described the occasion as a shock as she did not expect to be honoured for her contributions during 39-year old career. Dr Sikutwa said he accepted the Doctorate Degree with humility, gratitude and great pride and dedicated it to all his family members, especially his wife of 40 years Ethel.
