STRIKER Friday Konga scored the only goal as Nakambala Leopards yesterday ended Nkana’s unbeaten run during a Week Six MTN-FAZ Premier League rescheduled encounter played in Mazabuka.
Nkana were the only unbeaten side in league side into yesterday’s match having also come from a convincing 3-0 win over Red Arrows on Sunday but found the going tough against a Nakambala side that had registered four successive defeats in the last games.
The defeat sees Nkana maintaining seventh place on 20 points, 10 behind league leaders Power Dynamos, but have got now three games in hand over their rivals while Nakambala moved out of the relegation zone up to 12th place on 14 points.
Nakambala started the match on a slow defensive note obviously wary of Nkana’s past results but the visitors were never really threatened in the first half with striker Evans Kangwa and Ronald ‘Sate Sate’ Kampamba failing to find the back of the net, opting to entertain the crowd.
But Nakambala upped their game in the second half with Junior Zulu, after making a good run on the left flank, created space for himself to set up Konga who tapped in the ball into the net in the 56th minute.
Coach Zeddy Saileti made a double change bringing in midfielders Bruce Musakanya and Shadreck Musonda in a bid to find an equaliser and possibly a winner but the move failed to pay dividend.
Kampamba came close to levelling the scores for Nkana with a nice volley that beat Nakambala goalkeeper Moses Mapulanga but agonisingly saw his effort cleared off the line by Chubwalowe Mapenzi in the 83rd minute to ensure Nakambala picked up maximum points.
