JILL Biden, wife of United States Vice-President Joe Biden, is expected to visit Zambia on a week-long tour that will also see her travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Sierra Leone.
According to a statement made available by the United States Embassy in Lusaka, Dr Biden would be accompanied by US Ambassador Catherine Russell and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) administrator Rajiv Shah.
“Dr Jill Biden will travel to Zambia, the DRC, and Sierra Leone from June 30 to July 7, 2014. Rajiv Shah, administrator of USAID and Catherine Russell, US.Ambassador-at-large for global women’s issues, will also travel with Dr Biden,” reads the statement.
During their travel, Dr Biden, administrator Shah, and Ambassador Russell would highlight how girls’ education and women’s participation in government, the economy, and civil society can accelerate economic development.
These themes will also be woven throughout the upcoming US-Africa Leaders Summit to be held in Washington, DC in early August.
