DEPUTY Minister of Education David Mabumba has said Government changed the education curriculum to address the needs of society and fight youth unemployment.
Mr Mabumba said as a country, one of the challenges being faced, was high levels of unemployment among youths, hence the call by the curriculum development centre to harmonise their content with the TEVETA curricula.
Speaking in Kabwe on Tuesday when he officially opened a sensitisation workshop of stakeholders in the trade testing of vocational subjects, Mr Mabumba said it was another milestone in the transformation of the education system.
Mr Mahumba said entrepreneurship education has been integrated in the revised curriculum to equip learners with skills so that they can be self-employed when they cannot secure formal employment.
He said the primary aim was to provide career choice to the learners which were intended to give basic competences to youths maturing for labour market entry.
Meanwhile, principal education standard’s officer Joel Kamoko said the education sector would like to see various stakeholders harmonise and prepare for trade testing.
