THE Lions club of Ndola-Kansenshi says it will continue to supplement Government’s efforts in the development of the education sector through the provision of learning materials in community schools.
Club projects coordinator Joseph Nyirenda said the club would continue to help community schools, through the provision of learning material such as books and desks.
Mr Nyirenda said the club had observed that most community school in low income areas were faced with challenges in meeting their goals.
“Most schools especially here do not have enough learning materials such books, tables and desks. This makes it difficult for pupils to learn and further in their education,” he said
Mr Nyirenda said this when the club donated 20 desks valued at K10,000 to Elim Community School in Chipulukusu Township in Ndola yesterday.
School representative Margret Chisha said the school had 75 pupils from nursery to grade four and two teachers.
She said since the school opened in 2009, teachers usually abandoned the school because of lack of teaching and learning materials to motivate them.
Ms Chisha said the school was faced with financial challenges, as the majority of its pupils were orphaned and vulnerable.
She, however, appealed to well-wishers and relevant authorities to come on board and help the school develop.
Agnes Mbewe, a grade four pupil at the school commended the Lions Club for the donation, saying it would go a long way.
