By MOSES CHIMFWEMBE –

ZAMBIA’S tennis ace, Edgar Kazembe yesterday crashed out of the 2014 Real Insurance Kenya Open Tennis Championships taking place at the Nairobi Club.
Kazembe, who won the 2012 edition suffered elimination yesterday at the hands of Moroccan-based left-handed player, Ismael Changawa of Kenya in the semi-finals after losing in two straight sets with a 6-4, 6-1 score.
Prior to his defeat, Kazembe progressed to the last four after overcoming Kenyan Kevin Cheruiyot 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Heading into the men’s singles semi final, Kazembe had teamed up with Jean-Claude Gasigwa of Rwanda in men’s doubles semi-finals but lost to the Kenyan pair of Changawa and Fazal Khan via a 7-5, 7-6(3) win on Thursday.
By press time, top seed and reigning champion Duncan Mugabe of Uganda was up against third-seeded Gasigwa in the second men’s singles semi-final with the winner facing Changawa in today’s final.
Zambia coach Teddy Chambisha said in an interview from Nairobi that Kazembe put in his best but that the game was tough.
“I must say it was a tough semi-final match against a good opponent and Kazembe put in his best to win the game but it unfortunately ended in the Kenyan’s favour,” he said.
