MATERO Member of Parliament (MP) Miles Sampa has launched a road maintenance project called Pothole Free Matero which will see most roads in the constituency graded.
Mr Sampa, who is Commerce, Trade and Industry Deputy Minister, said roads played a vital role in economic development and that he was confident once worked on, the roads in the area would improve the economy of Matero Constituency.
“Roads play a vital role in economic development, this is why the government is constructing roads across the country so that people can move their produce and other goods to markets without problems,” he said.
The deputy minister was speaking in Lusaka’s Lilanda Township after launching the Pothole-free Matero (PFM) road maintenance project.
The MP said once roads were in good condition, people would be able to improve their lives and that he was confident the Patriotic Front (PF) would win elections in 2016 because of the projected improved infrastructure and the economy.
Meanwhile, Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary Wamunyima Muwana has praised Mr Sampa for his commitment to improving the roads in Matero Constituency.
“Matero is lucky to have an MP like Mr Sampa who is committed to see development in his constituency,” he said.
Mr Muwana added that his office was willing to assist constituencies that wanted to hire the equipment at his office to improve township roads.
The PFM road project will see roads in the area graded using machinery from the Rural Roads Unit from the provincial administration office while logistics will be handled by money raised from the Ward Fund.
The Ward Fund is a project under the Lusaka City Council where the council gives wards money collected from land rates in a particular ward.
Among the roads to be graded under the PFM project is the Bancroft Road which will link George Township to the Great North Road via Chunga Township.
