A CONGOLESE has been sentenced to three months imprisonment with hard labour for illegal entry into Zambia. Ndola magistrate Ben Akende jailed Anthony Kapasasa, 34 of House Number 7013 Kabushi Township in Ndola for entering Zambia without any Immigration permit. Facts of the case were that between May 2 and May 7, this year, Kapasasa unlawfully entered Zambia through Kasumbalesa Border and stayed without any legal permit. On May 20, Pingiwe Shonga, an Immigration officer in company of other officers arrested the accused for failing to produce identity documents and was later taken for interviews where he revealed that he was Congolese and did not have any passport or Immigration document to him allow stay in Zambia. After cross-examination Kapasasa admitted to the charge and asked for leniency and not to be sent prison, as he was remorseful of his acts and had learnt from his mistakes. Meanwhile, a 32-year-old man of Mushili Township appeared before Ndola magistrate Chitundu Chongo yesterday for having illegal power connections at his residence. This is in a matter in which Paul Lumanda of House Number 3456 Mushili was accused of having illegal power connections at his residence after a check by ZESCO prepaid meter inspectors. Particulars of the offence are that on November 26 last year around 09:30 hours, Kennedy Kalaba a ZESCO prepaid inspector in company of Angela Chabu, discovered a bypass at House Number 3456 in Mushili belonging to Lumanda, who had connected an illegal cable on the power distribution body server. During cross-examinations Lumanda said he had no power by-pass at his residence as there was no evidence or pictures showing the illegal connection as stated by the ZESCO prepaid meter inspector. Mr Kalaba stated that before he reported the case to the police, Lumanda begged him not to report him as he was only using electricity that day to cook beans. Mr Chongo adjourned the case to July 16 for commencement of trial.
