Letters to the Editor -LogoTHERE is nothing wrong to help people hit by natural or man-made disasters.
No one can condemn what the opposition political parties did in donating food to Mindolo demolition victims.
But what matters is the motive. Not too long ago the same people in the opposition; in the midst of country wide funerals of Post Bus mass deaths and burials-showed their utter selfishness, heartlessness, and unsympathetic attitude when they left the country and flew to South Africa to petition the Commonwealth to impose sanctions against their own country in alleged human rights abuses.
The same ordinary citizens they are feigning having sympathy for today are the same ones they wanted to suffer once trade restrictions are meted out on Zambia.
Today, the MMD and UPND are pretending to love humanity by making those donations in desperate beggary for votes in the PF strongholds!
This will not help them at all! Politics of appeasement will not help this country.

ECZ wins kudos for GCE exams

THE Examination Council of Zambia (ECZ) deserves commendation for introducing midyear general certificate of education (GCE) examinations apart from the traditional end of year examinations up on realising that it was being overwhelmed by the ever growing number of candidates.
The new system now allows GCE examinations to be written twice in a year.
However, allow me to suggest that ECZ do consider beginning amalgamating or amending grade 12 certificates for those school leavers who see such need. It does not augar well for someone to have about six certificates for one qualification.
ECZ may replicate what obtains in higher institutions of learning such as colleges and universities whereby only one document (certificate) is issued to a graduate up on clearing the courses in which one may have failed.
Through this development ECZ, will be able to generate income say K1,000 for one certificate amalgamation.
Issues of fraud can be taken care of by involving the High Court where oath must be taken by both the applicant and ECZ officials before transaction so that cheating may be prosecutable by the courts of law.

Sunzu, Sinkala appointments

THE appointing of Chipolopolo defence king pin Stoppila Sunzu and midfielder Nathan Sinkala as vice captains is a step in the right direction in nurturing promising talents into leadership roles.
This is a good movies as it would inspire other young players that hard work pays off.
However, the promotion and mentoring of young promising and talented players should not be frustrated by the old guys who have had their own good run.
Current skipper Christopher Katongo should aim to leave a legacy of having groomed young talent although his off-target outburst of late have been a source of concern.
Sinkala and Sunzu are a good choice for the next generation of players who, if they work hard and remain disciplined, could make the country more proud by wining another Africa Cup Champion and qualifying to the next World Cup.
Look at the caliber of young upcoming players the likes of Bruce Musakanya, Lusambo Musonda, Alex Ng’onga and Jimmy Ndhlovu, they need support and motivation.
I urge Isaac Chansa, Kennedy Mweene and Joseph Musonda whom I respect to mentor these young players as they prepare to retire from active although some are willing to continue until the end of time.

I will not go

IIN your dream,
I will come and come again.
In your ear,
I will whisper and whisper again.
That wand in your hand,
A stake in my mind,
To this reality, draws it.
Whether you like it or not.
In your dream,
In your ear,
The realm of your mind,
I will, till you understand.
That child needs warmth.
You and I are the earth.
Until we let go,
I will not go.
