The Lusaka Play House last Friday and Saturday hosted a youthful theater club comprising former Kamwala High School pupils with an interesting play “Holy Corruption.”
Looking at the background of the cast, they deserve kudos for a well executed play though room for improvement is there.
The play is an interesting story of how money can divide the Church and subsequently corrupt the Bishop’s mind to start negotiating for the release of a corrupt church member.
Will the Bishop help the corrupt member or the prosecutor who is seemingly following his teaching against corruption now that the money is in his hands?
Though fairly executed, the play still has room for improvement- a message going directly to the seemingly inexperienced director, Sydney Mwape who needs to up his game.
Sydney even made it hard and an issue for the the scribe to get names of the cast after the show as he said he first had to sanction that even when reminded that it was meant for the press.
“I don’t care whether you are from the media or whatever; in fact I don’t even need the media, I have always made it without the media; it being television radio or the newspaper” he screamed at this author attracting attention from onlookers who were shocked at his actions.
Anyway, away from the director, the cast comprised Edward Nkandu , who played the Bishop, Leonard Mwale who was the Alter Boy Chilumba Chishimba who took the part of prosecutor Chalai.
The only female in the cast Thokozile Khwabe deserves applause for her outstanding natural acting flair.
She was really in the character of Sister Juakina; the wife of the corrupt giver.
