A Kapiri Mposhi resident has killed his mother after he hit her with a stool, following a misunderstanding.
Meanwhile, one person died and four others were injured when the vehicle they were in overturned on Thursday night in Chisamba.
In the Kapiri Mposhi incident, the deceased identified as Beatrice Chisenga of Mukonchi’s East Bank area sustained a deep cut on the back of her head and died on arrival at the hospital.
Central Province Police chief Standwell Lungu said the incident happened on Thursday around 19:00 hours.
The assailant has been identified as Peter Munshya, 27, who hit his mother, using a stool.
Mr Lungu said police have since picked up the suspect after the matter was reported to the police by Ms Chisenga’s husband Herold Nyemu.
In Chisamba, Mr Lungu said the accident happened after the driver of a Nissan Presage registration number AIR 8399 failed to negotiate a corner and overturned several times.
The driver identified as David Nonda, is a police officer based at Lusaka Central Police Station.
An unidentified female passenger died on the spot and the body was at Liteta District Hospital, while three other female passengers and the driver were rushed to the University Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Mr Lungu said the four sustained serious injuries while the motor vehicle was extensively damaged.
