THE Catholic Church has pledged to support Government in providing more valuable life-skills training programmes for youths in the country.
Choma Trades Training Institute (CTTI) board chairperson Oliver Shandele said the church was happy that many youths were becoming viable and productive citizens through the skills training programmes.
Father Shandele said the Catholic Church was committed to partnering with Government to provide a good foundation that could facilitate creation of more self-enterprises among youths.
He was speaking in Choma on Thursday when Transport, Works, Supply and Communications Deputy Minister Panji Kaunda toured CTTI, a Catholic Church-run institution.
“As a church, we are committed in supporting Government to continue providing more training skills programmes to enable youths become viable and start own empowerment projects,” he said.
Earlier, Colonel Kaunda called on youths to be proactive and take skills training programmes seriously, as Government explored other ways of creating more decent jobs.
He said the Patriotic Front through its manifesto was mapping out effectual means of improving the living standard of youths.
“As Government, we are giving Zambians the ownership they deserve through good jobs and infrastructure developments,” he said.
He said Government was planning to transform some trades training institutes and youth training centres into colleges to operate as contractors in creating more jobs among youths.
