GRACE CHAILE –
ABOUT 40 players are today expected to take part in the second edition of the Junior Invitational Table Tennis Championship slated for the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka.
Among the budding stars will be 12-year-old Mwiza Siame of Ng’ombe PTA and Latifa Nalavwe of Ping-Pong Stars.
Both Siame and Nalavwe will be Southern Africa representatives at the 2014 International Table Tennis Association (ITTA) Hopes Week and Challenge tournament to be held in Slovenia next month.
Seven-year-old Chanda Muma, who won the inaugural Under Eight Cardinal Distributors Invitational Championship held at the OYDC on May 3, will also take part.
Zambia Table Tennis Association (ZTTA) patron Haroon Ghumra said 40 players drawn from various clubs in Lusaka will compete for honours in five different categories. These are the Under Eight, 12 and 14 years boys and Under 10, 12 and 14 girl’s categories. Today’s tournament has jointly been sponsored by Agogos Bakery and Bookworld.
Ghumra said Agogos will foot the bill for the organisational expenses while Bookworld have donated gift vouchers for the winners and runner-ups in the five categories.
