FIRST Lady Christine Kaseba has bemoaned the high mortality rate among expectant mothers and continued rise in cervical cancer cases.
Dr Kaseba was speaking yesterday when she stopped over in Kasama enroute to Chinsali for a safe motherhood programme.
She said it was sad that many women had succumbed to cervical cancer and urged them to take advantage of the free cancer screening facilities available at health centres countrywide.
Dr Kaseba said it was important for women to take charge of their health by going for regular checkups.
This was because most child birth complications could be avoided through regular checkups.
She advised men in the country to always support their womenfolk to access safe motherhood facilities.
Meanwhile, Dr Kaseba delivered words of encouragement to scores of Patriotic Front members that turned up at Kasama Airport to welcome her.
Assuring them of continued support from President Michael Sata, she urged them to promote the spirit of oneness and love as opposed to sowing seeds of division.
“Let’s work with love based on Godly principles. You worked hard to bring the PF to where it is but if there is division, the party will fall apart,” she said.
On hand to welcome Dr Kaseba were provincial Minister Feedom Sikazwe, senior party officials and Lukasha Member of Parliament Alfredah Kansembe, who later accompanied her to Chinsali.
