A THIRTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD woman of Mumbwa District has died after she was hit with a shovel and a concrete block on the head by her husband.
Rebecca Mulowa sustained a broken skull from the impact of the shovel and the concrete block.
Her husband, Philip Musebe has since run away and police have launched a manhunt.
Central Province Commissioner of Police, Standwell Lungu said the incident happened in the early hours of yesterday at Mulela Village in Chief Shakumbila’s area.
Mr Lungu said the motive for the killing was not yet established.
“I can confirm that we are looking for a Mumbwa man who brutally killed his wife using a shovel and a concrete block in unexplained circumstance but police are already on the ground investigating the case,” he said.
Meanwhile, a Chinese national and a Zambian man have been apprehended after they were found with a truck-load of illegal timber.
The two, Li Ke and Peter Daka, both of Lusaka’s Chamba Valley area were apprehended in Serenje, while several others escaped the police dragnet.
The timber was found in a truck with a foreign number plate registration, T398 and T283. The truck has since been impounded while the two men are in police custody.
Mr Lungu said preliminary investigations revealed that the timber was about to be smuggled into Tanzania through the Nakonde Border.
“As Police, we remain alert to arrest anyone found indiscriminately cutting timber and engaging in illegal exports.
