CARING CHANGA NORTH HOSPITAL STAFF WINS KUDOS
ALLOW me space to express my heartfelt gratitude to nurses and doctors at Nchanga North Hospital for the care and love shown to my young brother during the time he was hospitalised last month.
The gesture was very important as it led to his quick recovery and subsequent discharge.
I would like to appeal to other health workers in other health facilities to put patients first by showing care and compassion.
May the Almighty God bless all caring nurses at Nchanga North hospital in Chingola.

ZESCO COMMENDED
THE ambitious Zesco upgrading programme meant to mitigate load shedding is proving beneficial to us much to our delight.
It is now more profitable to do any form of business which depends on Zesco – produced electricity. I hope this good trend will be sustained permanently especially if Zesco management strictly adheres to its routine maintenance schedule and we also complement their efforts by refraining from vandalising their infrastructure.
This stability in power supply is another credit to the PF Government and it is a very big relief to those of us who are in the informal sector. Please keep it up Zesco!

SATA’S DIRECTIVE TIMELY
THE directive by President Michael Sata to the Labour Minister on Labour Day, to make sure that Zambian workers across the country get decent salaries is spot on and I can only describe it as the best Labour Day Award for the Zambian workers.
Most Zambian workers have and are still living below the food basket datum line and yet are expected to perform. Casualisation is also seen everywhere and employers are doing this with impunity, yet the PF Government has set benchmarks for category workers. Late salaries are also talk of every month end.
Hence the Presidential directive is timely and should be taken seriously. Government has regulated by laws that just need implementing and I sometimes worry when it takes the whole Head of State to command line departments to implement what is in black and white, making him look like a one man show.
Let various Government ministries help the President deliver.
We have seen that even on projects, the President has on many occassions issued a warning for work to start progressing when there are inspectors in line ministries to do that.

ZAMBIAN BOSS IRKS WORKERS
OFTEN you hear Zambians say there is nothing expatriate workers can do which we cannot do ourselves. But do we?
I work for a Mining House. Two months ago the expatriate manager in our department left the company and was replaced by our own.
When we were headed by the expatriate, we worked from Monday to Friday and rested on Saturday and Sunday. We are now resting on Sunday. Further, Mother’s Day for our three female employees is being challenged.
We used to start work at 07:30 but the Zambian manager has changed this to 06:30 in order to allow for planning.
The department has two utility vehicles. These have been packed. We are now carrying tools on our shoulders.
The expatriate manager, would buy us food each time we worked beyond normal hours. The Zambian says he hates people who talk about food.
We don’t get paid for working overtime any more instead we rest on a day the manager will decide. Sadly no one rests.
Personal protective equipment was issued every six months. The Zambian is saying that’s being wasteful.
Sugar, tea, soap and cleaning detergents all went with the expatriate manager. We buy our own from meager wages.
Meanwhile we are being urged to support and buy Zambian.
