KASONDEBy MOFFAT CHAZINGWA-
THE Labour Institute of Zambia (LIZ) has expressed happiness with Government for releasing K569.7 million for development activities.
LIZ executive director Clement Kasonde said improvement in public infrastructure such as roads, railway and energy was a pre-requisite to stimulating more investment.
At the weekend, Secretary to the Treasury Fredson Yamba announced that the Ministry of Finance had released K569.7 million to stir development, create jobs and ultimately reduce poverty.
Mr Kasonde said in an interview yesterday that increased investment was an important macro-economic strategy aimed at accelerating economic growth and poverty reduction. “We are, therefore, urging Government to continue with sound macro-economic reforms,” Mr Kasonde said.
He also urged Government to continue using borrowed funds prudently by investing in productive sectors such as agriculture and construction.
“Above all, when Government releases more money into the economy, it means a lot of people will be employed and there will be increased disposal income and this is what stimulates development,” he said.
