NINE Zambian fishermen from Sinazongwe District have been arrested by Zimbabwean security officers after allegedly being found on a fishing expedition in that country’s side of Lake Kariba.
Southern Province deputy Police chief Milner Muyambango confirmed the arrest of the fishermen yesterday, but could not immediately name the suspects.
He said the fishermen were arrested on Thursday around 16:00 hours and were being held at Binga Town in Zimbabwe.
“They were apprehended by Zimbabwean security personnel after they strayed into that country while on a fishing expedition, but I am still waiting for the list of their names,” he said.
Mr Muyambango said relevant authorities from Zambia were trying to negotiate with Zimbabwean counterpart to release the fishermen.
Meanwhile, a 32-year-old man of Livingstone is battling for his life in the Livingstone General Hospital after being shot in the stomach by armed robbers.
Mr Muyambango said the robbers broke into House number 242 of Spencer Chikaza in Livingstone’s Dambwa Site and Service Township and allegedly stole K3,000 cash.
