SOME public transport operators in Ndola and Livingstone have increased fares by K1 following the hike of the pump price on petroleum products by 7.2 per cent.
Last week, The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) announced the revised pump prices following the cumulative depreciation of the Kwacha against the United States Dollar.
In Ndola, some taxi drivers interviewed said they had increased the fares by K1.
However, bus fares at Mulungushi and Chisokone bus stations in the town centre have remained the same.
Drivers at Mulungushi Bus station have, however, vowed not to increase fares soon after consultations.
In Livingstone, taxi drivers have also increased their fares in response to the recent increment in fuel prices.
The affected passengers are those who stay along Lusaka Road, airport road as well as in Nottie Broadie and Dambwa North Extension, among others.
However, a check at the Livingstone Town Centre revealed that bus operators were still charging the old fares.
Livingstone public transport association chairperson Christopher Banda has opposed the increment as the move may prompt passengers to start shunning legal operators and opt for pirate taxi drivers.
In Lusaka, the Lusaka City Market bus drivers have bemoaned the delay by the board to release the new bus fare chart following the increment in the fuel prices.
