THE Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) Board has been dissolved, slightly over a year after being constituted.
Tourism and Arts Minister Jean Kapata announced in Lusaka yesterday that she had dissolved the Board in line with her duties as appointing authority.
“In line with my duties as appointing authority of the ZAWA Board, I have decided to dissolve the Board with immediate effect. The nation will be informed on the composition of the new board at an opportune time,” Ms Kapata said in a statement.
The Board, which was headed by commercial farmer Guy Robinson, was appointed by former Tourism and Arts Minister Silvia Masebo in January last year.
Other Board members were Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General Wynter Kabimba, Senior Chief Inyambo Yeta and Timothy Mushibwe.
The rest were former Tourism Permanent Secretary Charity Mwansa,  Ministry of Finance Economist Chasiya Kazembe, Ms Anita Poleti,  Chieftainess Mwape from Petauke and Mr Yonas Mita.
Ms Kapata has since thanked the out-going board members for their contribution to ZAWA and wished them well in their future endevours.
The Minister said her ministry would complete the review of both the policy and legislation on wildlife before the end of this year.
“I would also like to inform the nation that the ministry is spearheading the review of the policy and legislation on wildlife. We hope to complete both activities before the end of the year,” Ms Kapata said.
