ZAMTEL has come to the aid of the Zambia Amateur Swimming Union (ZASU) by donating track suits worth K20, 000 for the national team ahead of the African Swimming Union (CANA) Zone Three and Four Gala set for Uganda.
Chief marketing officer Evans Muhanga said Zamtel was committed towards helping ZASU because the company realises the investment would not be in vain as the swimmers have the potential to deliver results.
Muhanga said at a press briefing at the Lusaka Hotel yesterday that Zamtel was not only involved in professional swimming but that it was also helping at grassroots level where the company sponsors the Swimming Challenge at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) at a cost of K1.4 million.
ZASU vice president Guy Phiri said the union was now left with a deficit of K100, 000 from the K450, 000 budget ahead of the tournament that gets underway on April 24 to 27 in Kampala.
Phiri was hopeful that the deficit would be raised before the team leaves next week.
“We are confident that the 33 swimmers will put up a good performance at the tournament and we are hopeful that the team will reap medals,” he said.
