GOVERNMENT has approved the upgrading of Chimwemwe Urban Clinic to a mini-hospital to enable the institution provide enhanced healthcare services to the people.
Copperbelt Minister, Mwenya Musenge confirmed the development and said Government had since released K1 million towards the upgrading of the clinic.
Mr Musenge, who is Chimwemwe Member of Parliament (MP), said the move follows the public outcry to have the institution upgraded to a level one clinic for it to handle serious medical cases.
“People have been crying to have Chimwemwe Clinic upgraded to level one and to this effect I talked to President Michael Sata who agreed to the idea,” Mr Musenge said.
He said the Ministry of Health had also consented to the request to have the clinic upgraded to level one.
Mr Musenge said the upgrading was earmarked to be conducted in phases, with the initial one getting the K1 million allocation.
“The process of tendering has already been concluded and the contractor is expected to move to the site any time soon,” Mr Musenge said.
He said Government was committed to fulfilling all the campaign promises of improving the welfare of the general citizenry as evidenced by the move to upgrade the Chimwemwe Clinic to a mini-hospital.
