TWENTY-SIX urban roads in Luanshya have been rehabilitated at a cost of K89 million since 2011.
According to a report in the latest edition of Luanshya News, 26.78 kilometres of urban Luanshya roads have been rehabilitated since May 2011.
Luanshya Municipal Council acting director of engineering services Freddie Mukuka said the council and the Road Development Agency (RDA) identified 26 urban roads that were eligible for rehabilitation and upgrading.
Mr Mukuka said RDA and the Ministry of Local Government and Housing released K89 million.
The project was undertaken by Ndola-based Gomes Haulage and Construction Company.
Mr Mukuka said the council and RDA desired an excellent job on the rehabilitation of the roads so that residents could benefit from the project.
“Therefore, they contracted a joint venture consortium to carry out the works on the identified roads in Luanshya. The joint venture consisted of Kiran Musonda and Associates Limited as consulting engineers and Gomes Haulage Limited as the works contractor,” he said.
The road rehabilitation project has since been completed successfully.
More urban roads, the report said, were expected to be upgraded in Luanshya.
It said the Ministry of Local Government and Housing announced recently that it signed a contract valued at about K88 million with Kiran and Musonda Associates consulting engineers for the rehabilitation and upgrading of 33 urban roads.
The roads rehabilitation programme was expected to improve the movement of motorists and the economy of the town
