THE Zambia Martial Arts Association (ZAMAA) has been invited to participate in the Open Championships to be held in Botswana and India this year.
ZAMAA spokesperson Hanif Moonga said in an interview yesterday that the association will send three officials and seven Karatekas to the open championship to be held in Gaborone, Botswana starting March 15.
Moonga said that the India outing would be held three months after the Botswana tournament but that the association was yet to be availed with more details concerning the competition.
He said the Zambian team will compete against the likes of South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe and hosts Botswana with the contingent expected to depart for the neighbouring country three days before the event starts.
“These invitations are a big plus for us as the competitions will help expose our Karatekas to new techniques and assess how far we have reached in the sport. It is through these competitions that we can we know our strengths and weaknesses’,” he said.
However, Moonga expressed confidence that the Karatekas who will be selected to represent Zambia will put up a good performance.
“Technically there has been tremendous improvement by our Karatekas in 2013. And most importantly the eagerness and commitment to learn was inspiring. I am confident the team will exceed our expectations,” he said.
